We know that with perishable items, reliable, on-time delivery is the key to keeping shipments fresh and customers happy. And, we know what it takes to get your perishable seafood shipments there on-time and in excellent condition. DOMESTIC U.S. & INTERNATIONAL GUIDELINES PACKAGING Seafood or fish should always be packaged to withstand up to a 48 hour domestic transit time, and a 72 hour international transit time, without refrigeration. Contents must be completely sealed in a polyethylene bag at least four mil thick. The sealed contents and selected insulator must be packed in a styrofoam box with a minimum density of one pound per cubic foot. An absorbent pad must be placed in the bottom of the styrofoam container and should be able to absorb four liters of liquid. The box must have a beveled locking top which should be held in place by a strip of plastic tape around the seam of the box. Styrofoam boxes are not acceptable as outside packaging. All containers must be secured with banding. INSULATORS/COOLING AGENTS It is recommended to use one of the following types of insulators:          · Urethane Foam          · Polystyrene Foam          · Gel Packs Dry ice is a hazardous material. Specific handling requirements are available from our freight facilities or by calling: 1-800-421-2456 or 1-281-553-5050 CONTAINERS For effective and expedient handling, maximum gross weight per piece must not exceed 150 lbs. (68 kgs.) This includes palletized/containerized shipments. Package Type Total Max. The sum of the length & width or height shall not exceed the maximum dimensions per aircraft type. *Inclusive of packaging, dry ice, etc. LABELING Each piece must be labeled with the shipper's and consignee's name, address and 24-hour phone numbers. In addition, "Perishable Seafood," total number of boxes in shipment and city of destination need to be clearly identified on each piece. All international shipments must be accompanied by the proper documentation. Note: Failure to meet the above guidelines may cause or lead to damaged or delayed goods, which become the responsibility of the shipper. RATES SCR 0303 rates apply to domestic U.S. shipments tendered in package type EH, EO, EQ, and multi-walled, wax impregnated, fiberboard/cardboard waterproofed seafood boxes that meet the specifications above.
